I am a Professor of Operational Research and in 2010-2011, I was President of the Operational Research Society in the U.K. I now have a part-time appointment in the Department of Management Science.

My research interests are currently in two main areas. The first is the area of optimisation using mathematical programming and heuristic methods, including Simulated Annealing and Tabu Search. The second area is that of vehicle routing and scheduling which provides practical application for the optimisation techniques. Recent work is in Green Logistics which involves developing new vehicle routing and scheduling methods, particularly to take account of the effects of road congestion.
